Ceconomy, one of the largest retailers of electrical household products in Europe, is using its leading market position to accelerate circular and sustainable economies. The company has updated policies and operations to incorporate more green energy solutions. Products available at Ceconomy account for more than half of the energy consumption in an average household, giving the company the opportunity to meet consumer demand for ESG-designed products and to advice on renewable energy power suppliers. The company will have refurbished all of its stores according to ESG criteria by 2023 — and any new construction will meet those same strict standards. Over 80 percent of its electricity last year came from renewable sources. Sustainability is a constant topic at board meetings, with the executive team striving to help lower the carbon footprint of company and consumer alike. ESG commitments impact every aspect of the business, from logistics to packaging. Targets for the 2022/23 fiscal year include net-zero scope one and two emissions for Ceconomy operations and double the offering of sustainable products available in 2020. It stays on top of supply chain, conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with human and labour rights. The company works with suppliers to support their sustainability journey and is adjusting purchasing procedure to support ESG initiatives and pledges. Ceconomy also runs a recycling programme and is implementing one for refurbishing household appliances. The CFI.co jury presents Ceconomy — a company that challenges itself and others to shape, create and educate — with the 2022 Best ESG Retailer (Germany) award.
