Brazilian mobility specialist Localiza began operations 49 years ago with a fleet of six used Beetles, purchased on credit. Now, it has over 12,200 employees, 620 car rental agencies, 127 used car stores and 289,796 cars in the fleet. More than half the fleet is connected by telemetry, which has contributed to IoT-enabled cost reductions. Localiza serves some 13 million customers across Latin America. It operates in 366 cities in Brazil and has a presence in Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Argentina. The group marked several milestones in 2021. Localiza achieved the highest net income in its history, exceeding $377.8m (2bn Brazilian reais). It launched Zarp, a car rental solution for Brazilian app drivers offering exclusive payment options and feedback on driving performance in traffic. The previous year, Localiza introduced MEOO, a subscription car rental service where the company donates a percentage of every car rented to local education projects. In 2021, the group conducted a materiality study to define priority themes linked to good sustainability practices, then grouped them under the pillars of sustainable mobility, education and entrepreneurship for social transformation, and world-class culture and governance. This framework helps Localiza to map the best route to generate increasing value for its stakeholders and society at large. The group provided over 196,000 hours of training to women and young people in vulnerable situations through Instituto Localiza. The CFI.co judging panel announces Localiza as the 2022 award winner for Best Mobility Solutions Leadership (LATAM).
