The company was founded in 2009 and listed the Sequoia Economic Infrastructure Income Fund (SEQI) \u2014 the largest FTSE 250 debt fund at \u00a31.6bn \u2014 on the London Stock Exchange in 2015. It\u2019s one of the longest-running funds of its kind, boasting a track record of favourable value generation and unparalleled access to the massive US market; the fund is in high demand and has raised capital 11 times, with half of its investments originating there. The company also manages the Luxembourg-domiciled Sequoia Infrastructure Debt Fund. ESG considerations are embedded throughout the business and investment process. Sequoia assesses potential investments with an internally-developed ESG model and conducts extensive due diligence before approving borrowers, 90 percent of whom are turned down. It engages with borrowers and refines loan terms as ESG scores are improved. The firm and SEQI offset carbon emissions from the business by planting sequoia trees and restoring peat bogs, which promises a faster impact than trees. Sequoia is a proud signatory of the UN PRI, fully supports the Global Compact, and adheres to the reporting guidelines of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures. SEQI was also the first FTSE 250 infrastructure debt fund to request a limited assurance ESG audit, which was performed by KPMG.
