At celebrations to mark the opening of Wilopark in Dortmund in February, Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke glowingly of Wilo – a business whose track record in economic and environmental progress is setting the benchmark for industrial sustainability. The Wilo Group is one of the world’s leading providers of pumps and hydraulic systems. WILO SE has invested some $350m in its new headquarters, which includes a climate-neutral “smart factory” and draws the company’s main operations under one roof. The project is one of Germany’s largest ever industrial developments, creating an ultra-modern digital factory, an office complex, customer service centre and product development facilities across an area of nearly 200,000 square metres. It was founded as a copper and brassware factory in 1872. Today, the company employs around 8,000 workers and is internationally recognised as a company with a total commitment to the environment, and a leading exponent of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) principles. Wilo’s operations are driven by an aspiration to be completely climate-friendly, thanks to the adoption of an over-arching sustainability strategy which involves “fairness, respect, passion, responsibility and integrity”, values which form the foundation of its actions. Wilo Group’s motto – green solutions for a better climate – describes a holistic strategy which aims for climate-neutrality at all its main production sites, worldwide, by 2025. In recognition of the company’s advances, the judging panel is pleased to present WILO SE with the 2021 award, Best Industrial CSR Europe.
