Pirelli: Best ESG Responsible Manufacturer Italy 2020

Pirelli is one of the world’s leading tyre producers and the only one focused solely on Consumer tyres. Its social responsibility stance has been in place from its early days, and has evolved to align with the principles and practices of the UN Global Compact. A dedicated sustainability team works with Executive Vice Chairman and CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera and a steering committee comprised of top management representatives to develop Pirelli’s vision for the future. The team evaluates every aspect of the business through the lens of sustainability. Pirelli prioritizes this core value — and expects the same commitment from everyone in its supply chain. Potential suppliers undergo a rigorous selection process before contracts are awarded, and each must demonstrate continued compliance with sustainability standards through regular auditing by an independent party. Pirelli gives suppliers clear deadlines to rectify any instance of non-compliance before resorting to contract termination when deemed necessary. Sustainability targets are periodically reviewed and revised and published as part of Group industrial plans. These targets are cascaded through to the local level, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability. With the aim of of accelerating the transition to a more sustainable way of life, the Company proactively participates in trade associations, and contributes to the wider community. It sponsors youth scholarships, family support programmes, sustainable farming workshops and road safety campaigns. In response to the pandemic, Pirelli donated funds to philanthropic community initiatives, particularly in areas where it has operations. The CFI.co judging panel recognizes Pirelli as winner of the 2020 award for Best ESG Responsible Manufacturer (Italy).
